Day Fourteen

In the morning we arose early in order to get an early start up the Golden Staircase. The Staircase is a tiring climb, but the views are worth the climb, as long as you get an early start. Eventually arriving at Lower Palisade Lake and then Upper Palisade Lake, we finally topped Mather Pass, totally out of breath. After taking a long rest break, we started down the trail, passing through Upper Basin and soon reaching a ford of the South Fork Kings River. Just before the river we found a fair place to camp on the left side of the trail.
