Day Eleven

Following the South Fork San Joaquin River upstream, we gradually rose to cross the river, and then, climbing a bit more steeply, we reached the junction of Goddard Canyon Trail where we crossed the river again. Here we began a steep climb up to Evolution Creek, continuing along its west bank before finally crossing it. Hiking along its east side, we soon reached Evolution Meadow and, not too much later, McClure Meadow. Here we found a lovely riverside campsite a hundred yards or so before reaching the McClure Ranger Station. This was probably the nicest camp we had on the whole Muir trail! After setting up hammocks, we explored and/or lazed around until bedtime.
