Day Four

Leaving Mammoth Lakes the next morning, we returned to the Muir Trail at Reds Meadow, and began climbing through burnt forest to the Red Cone area. John took a moment to visit a spring at the side of the trail, which will no longer be accessible since that section of the trail was being rerouted as we hiked. As we climbed higher, we could look to the right and see much of the area surrounding Reds Meadow, including the burnt forest we had just passed through. We crossed a stream on a log and then saw views of Red Cone and Mammoth Mountain before levelling off at Crater Meadow. We continued on a short ways to Deer Creek where we camped.
